The Wichita Wings fly again! Go Wings!

Back in the 1980s, indoor soccer was very popular in many American cities. The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) had teams in cities across the country from coast to coast - L.A., San Diego, Tacoma, Washington, New York, Memphis, Minneapolis, Dallas. And our very own Wichita Wings had quite the following, too.

Many's the time the Orange Army as the Wings fans were known in those days packed the Kansas Coliseum to cheer their beloved Wings on to victory over one of the other teams. Often the fan noise inside the Coliseum was deafening and the tension so thick you could almost feel it dripping from the air in there.

And then, in the 1990s, the soccer fad faded, the Wings folded and the MISL seemed to all but disappear. And, in Wichita at least, indoor soccer was all but forgotten.

But now, a fledgling indoor soccer league is on the rise and has planted a seed in Wichita. And the Wichita Wings fly again! Though in their inaugural resurrection season, and the crowds are smaller and quieter. But the excitement and the soccer action are back and equally as exciting as it used to be.

Here's hoping the Wings - and the new Major Indoor Soccer League - will fly higher and higher providing a new generation of fans this same level of excitement in the great game of indoor soccer. Go, Wings!
